There have been several shifts in the analytics world over the past year, including the continued adoption of Google Analytics 4 (GA4) and server-side tagging in Google Tag Manager (sGTM). With Universal Analytics (UA) having a planned sunset date of July 1, 2023, GA4 will become the default experience for new properties, and organizations will rely on sGTM for data collection and governance, so we’re continuing to improve on our DataLayer Inspector+ tool to enable visibility for them.

Using DataLayer Inspector+ with GA4
With Google encouraging marketers and analysts to set up a new GA4 property alongside existing Universal Analytics properties, it can be hard to distinguish between the two hits. DataLayer Inspector+ now has added visibility for GA4 hits, making it easier than ever to debug your new GA4 setup while ensuring your existing properties are working properly.
Using DataLayer Inspector+ for sGTM
If you’re not familiar with sGTM, keep an eye on our blog as we plan to continue sharing more info soon. But if you’re already using it and want to ensure you’re sending the correct payload to your server endpoint properly, use the new feature within the DataLayer Inspector+. It will allow you to see all the parameters in the request to your server endpoint and distinguish between a Google Analytics hit and your sGTM hit.
Here’s how it works:
- Open the DL Inspector and click open “Other Analytics”
- Check “GTM Server-Side”
- Enter your subdomain (Server Side Endpoint)
- Click “Save & Reload Page”
