GETTING STARTED WITH CAMPAIGN MANAGER (CM) - Advertiser Guide

Campaign Manager (CM) offers an efficient and simple workflow for you to traffick your media plan within minutes! Follow the steps outlined below to get started.

STEP 1: CREATE ADVERTISER

The first step to getting started with Campaign Manager (CM) is to create an Advertiser. An Advertiser can either represent the brand of your own company or a brand that you manage for a client.

  1. Select Advertisers from the navigation bar.
  2. Click on the New button.
  3. Enter the name of the Advertiser.
  4. Click Save.

STEP 2: CONFIGURE FLOODLIGHT SETTINGS

Next, select the high-level settings to apply to Floodlight activities created for your Advertiser. The recommended settings to configure before you create Floodlight Activities are listed below.

  1. Select an Advertiser and click on the Floodlight configuration tab.
  2. Set Lookback windows for clicks and impressions. The default settings are 30 days for clicks and 14 days for impressions and can be adjusted between 1 and 90 days.
  3. Enable Dynamic tags (recommended). This will offer the option to piggyback third-party tracking pixels on your Floodlight tags.
  4. Link your Google Tag Manager (GTM) container to seamlessly push your Floodlight tags to your GTM account (optional).
  5. Create Custom Floodlight Variables you want to add to your Floodlight tag (optional). Learn more about Custom Floodlight Variables.
  6. Enable premium Path to Conversion to view up to 200 interactions instead of 5 (optional).
  7. Click Save.

STEP 3: CREATE FLOODLIGHT ACTIVITIES

Floodlight activities are created to generate tags to place on the Advertiser website to track conversions. It is recommended to create a Floodlight activity for each creative landing page URL and for any touchpoints within the conversion funnel that you want to track.

  1. Select an Advertiser and click on the Floodlight activities tab.
  2. Enter a name for the Floodlight activity. The name should reflect the landing page where the Floodlight tag will be implemented or expected to fire.
  3. Enter the Expected URL to indicate where the Floodlight tag will be implemented. This is for informational purposes only.
  4. Select a tag Type. The type specifies how conversions will be counted for the activity. Select Sales to record monetary data and Counter to record non-monetary data.
  5. Create or assign the Floodlight activity to an Activity Group. Activity groups are required and are used to organize Floodlight activities for reporting and to identify the tag type.
  6. Select a Counting Method. Learn more about available Counting methods for each tag Type.
  7. Select Tag Type which is the format for which the tag will download. To ensure that Campaign Manager can measure your conversions effectively, we recommend that you use the global site tag (gtag.js) as the format for your Floodlight activity tags. Learn more about Global Site Tags. If you are using GTM to deploy your tags, the tag type selection can remain as ‘global site tag’ as this setting is not applicable since tags are not downloaded.
  8. Select desired Custom Floodlight Variables to include within the tag (optional).
  9. Implement third-party tracking tags under within the Dynamic Tags section (optional). Learn more about Dynamic Tags.
  10. Click Save.

STEP 4: EXPORT OR PUBLISH FLOODLIGHT ACTIVITIES

When all Floodlight tags have been created, export the tags to provide to the Advertiser webmaster. Or if you have linked a GTM container, you may publish the tags directly to the GTM account.

STEPS TO EXPORT TAGS MANUALLY:

  1. Select an Advertiser and click on the Floodlight activities tab.
  2. Click Export and select Excel (recommended).
  3. Send the tag sheet to the Advertiser webmaster for implementation.

STEPS TO PUBLISH TAGS TO GTM:

  1. Select an Advertiser and click on the Floodlight activities tab.
  2. Select a Floodlight activity.
  3. Expand the Google Tag Manager section and select the GTM container. This section is only available if you have completed the steps to link a GTM account.
  4. Click Push to Google Tag Manager.
  5. Click Save.

STEP 5: CONFIRM THE FLOODLIGHT TAG IMPLEMENTATION (RECOMMENDED)

After the Floodlight tags have been implemented, confirm that the Floodlight tags are counting impressions. Floodlight impressions indicate that the Floodlight tags are firing correctly.

STEPS TO VIEW FLOODLIGHT IMPRESSIONS:

  1. Select an Advertiser and click on the Floodlight activities tab.
  2. View the Impressions Yesterday column to check for reported Floodlight Impressions.
