Mobile User Experience Best Practices a Top Priority for Google

Google is stepping up its push for best practices in mobile user experience. This has implications for Search Engine Optimization and Analytics. Here are two recent developments: Google now puts a "Mobile-friendly" label on mobile search results when sites are formatted for mobile device. Could Google start adding a "Mobile-not-so-much" label to results for sites that aren't mobile optimized? Not yet, but why not? The "Mobile-friendly" label is actually fairly inconspicuous. You almost have to know it's there to see it. But you can be sure Google is testing this feature and many more aspects of the label. They were testing mobile friendly icons earlier this year. But they decided to go with text. And, Google just added a section in its Webmaster Tools for Mobile Usability. This is an excellent new feature to diagnose whether your site meets basic standards. You can get recommendations on how to fix mobile usability problems - tailored to the platform your site runs on. If something gets added to Webmaster Tools, you know it's a big deal.
